چکیده

How thermally activated structural excitations quantitatively mediate transport and microplasticity in a model binary glass at the microsecond timescale is revealed using atomistic simulation. These local excitations, involving stringlike sequence of atomic displacements, admit far-field shear-stress signature underlie free-volume bond geometry. Such found to correspond evolution disclination network describing spatial connectivity topologically distinct bonding environments, demonstrating important role geometrical frustration both structure its underlying dynamics.

Size-Dependent Viscosity in the Super-Cooled Liquid State of a Bulk Metallic Glass

We experimentally investigate the role of sample size on the viscosity of a bulk metallic glass by examining pressure driven flows in nm-scale confinement. A Pt57.5Cu14.7Ni5.3P22.5 metallic glass in the super-cooled liquid state is extruded into isolated cylindrical pores of varying nano-scale dimensions, down to 40 nm. The apparent viscosity of the liquid as a function of sample size is determ...

Fragile-glass behavior of a short-range p-spin model.

We propose a short-range generalization of the p-spin interaction spin-glass model. The model is well suited to test the idea that an entropy collapse is at the bottom line of the dynamical singularity encountered in structural glasses. The model is studied in three dimensions through Monte Carlo simulations, which put in evidence fragile glass behavior with stretched exponential relaxation and...

Pressure effects on Ca60Al40 metallic glass superconductors

Theoretical computation of the pressure dependence superconducting state parameters of binary Ca60Al40 is reported using model potential formalism. Explicit expressions have been derived for the volume dependence of the electron–phonon coupling strength λ and the Coulomb pseudopotential μ* considering the variation of Fermi momentum KF and Debye temperature ӨD with volume. Well known Ashcroft’s...

The viscosity of the Zr46.75Ti8.25Cu7.5Ni10Be27.5 bulk metallic glass forming alloy in the supercooled liquid

The viscosity of the Zr46.75Ti8.25Cu7.5Ni10Be27.5 bulk metallic glass forming alloy in the supercooled liquid was measured using parallel plate rheometry. The measurements were carried out with different heating rates between 0.0167 and 1.167 K/s as well as isothermally. Because of the high thermal stability above the glass transition of this bulk metallic glass former with respect to crystalli...

A Finite-Deformation Constitutive Model of Bulk Metallic Glass Plasticity

A constitutive model of bulk metallic glass (BMG) plasticity is developed which accounts for finitedeformation kinematics, the kinetics of free volume, strain hardening, thermal softening, rate-dependency and non-Newtonian viscosity. The model has been validated against uniaxial compression test data; and against plate bending experiments. The model captures accurately salient aspects of the ma...
